Sarah Saunders
Sarah is a figurative ceramicist working mainly with the construction of slabs. She makes mostly human forms, but there is usually an animal hanging around somewhere. She colours her pieces using slips, oxides and underglazes and she fires to stoneware temperatures.
Sarah has always been interested in folk art sculpture, with its simple shapes and often highly decorated style. Because of the age and the materials and techniques used, pieces often fade and chip with beautiful patina. She loves how all this oddity, all this patterning makes you look for just a little longer. "I want people to do this with my work. I want to make pieces of work that look like they've had a life, a story, a past. I want to create this through the form, texture and decoration. I want to tell a tale."
