These paintings form part of Anna Dickerson’s Garden Bird series: soap operas at the bird table. Robins, sparrows, woodpeckers, chaffinch and blue tits have been regular guests at her garden in Kent. Delicately layered in acrylic using a palette knife the birds have a jewel like quality and a burnished patina in places. The intensity of the palette is bold and yet tonally subtle. Figuration and a flare for materials have informed her work, which is often drawn from the natural world.
Anna was Artist in Residence at the Zoological Society of London for 18 months and featured in the Tate online drawing course. Her work is held in the United Nations Art Collection, Rome, and private collections worldwide. Her robin exhibited at the RA summer exhibition 2019 has this year been printed for the RA Christmas wallet and is proving very popular!
Anna studied painting at Glasgow School of Art and Rhode Island School of Design.
