Jane Muir

Jane Muir studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London before receiving her Masters from the Royal College of Art in 1992. Her idiosyncratic hand-painted figures represent a witty and uncluttered observation of the world. Jane’s charming characters are hand modelled. Their recognisable and individual traits are perhaps due to the freedom of the artist’s chosen medium - she uses clay, allowing her to develop her ideas during the making process. Subtle colour and seductive surface textures are key elements in her work; immensely appealing but never sentimental. Inspiration comes from various sources, from Peter Blake, Eduardo Paolozzi and Elizabeth Frink, to more traditional craftwork such as that of the Staffordshire Potters.
