Cliff Howe

Since moving to East Sussex in 1996, Cliff has become well known for his atmospheric landscapes combining realism and imagination with a hint of abstract. Unusually for a watercolourist, he invariably uses watercolour straight from the tube - adding several layers with a palette knife and scraping away different areas to create light and texture. He continues to develop new techniques and in recent years has been experimenting with acrylic and mixed media, particularly in seascapes.

The High Weald, Sussex Downs and coastline of the South-East are a constant source of inspiration and frequently feature in his work. Many of his paintings are in private collections throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
